Comments about “Girls Breaking the Mold”
Love all the books and especially Girls Breaking The Mold. You or the student will read a quote and it invokes a conversation you can’t predict or imagine. A student asked me why is domestic violence bad after reading the Audre Lorde quote about speaking. That resulted in a long discussion. She agreed that silence is not the answer and you have to speak your truth. I knew in my soul that domestic violence exists in her young world and that the quote was the gateway for her to open up and get information on a topic that was clearly on her mind. -Jolli Brown, Esq., March 12, 2017

Re: Two Nickels Holding Up a Dollar
This is a fabulous book. It introduces young people to the subjects of money, saving and financial literacy. The book naturally generates discussion. Perfect for educators and students. The book fills an important gap because it covers a topic rarely discussed in the home and school and should be! Jollie I. Brown, December 7, 2015

“Congratulations to you on the release of “I AM” and the best to all of the young girls, such as my Vida and Ellie Rose who will have an opportunity to open one book that they will be able to see females, especially from their cultural background, who have chosen careers which they might or might not have dreamed of seeing themselves attaining. With a book such as this, each page may be seen as a window for opportunity in the eyes of a young girl searching to discover and express that yearning in their brains.” Sherman O., December 6, 2015.

Super congratulations! It brightens my day to know you are writing and publishing! Let me know if you’ve any interest in connecting your work to bookstores in Asheville. It’s a very bookish town. I only got the one semester in at law school, but you remain a very memorable and positive figure from that time! Keep writing! Joseph Ballew, December 6, 2015

This beautifully illustrated book Two Nickels Holding Up a Dollar is a wonderful tool for introducing young children the important role that money has upon their lives. This book has many amazing, insightful quotes by well-known historical figures and celebrities that emphasize the benefits of saving, sharing, generosity, spending wisely and avoiding impulse buying. Aside from being a fun, easy read, it will teach your child to be financially responsible. This book will hopefully initiate a fruitful discussion between the parent and child on how money affects their daily lives. I highly recommend this book! Darknight December 1, 2015

I received your wonderful new book! Thank you so much! You have skillfully arranged the quotes and illustrations to support teachable moments not only for young children but also for others who may need to learn more about the underlying principles of the use of money and managing finance. I can see this book serving as a springboard for workshops and seminars for children and their families – together. Unlike many children’s books, this one seems to open the door for interactive discussions, questions and answers, follow up projects…rather than being a book that is simply read to, or by, the child. You have framed a curriculum… and I am sure that your subsequent books will move that curriculum even further forward.
Congratulations to you always! I will share the book within my network. Gloria J Willingham [Toure’] Ph.D.(September 24, 2015)
